The power scheme utilises water from the Rangitāiki River, Wheao River and Flaxy Stream. 

The Rangitāiki Canal provides an excellent recreational fishery and there’s also fishing in the Wheao canal. Extensive trout monitoring has shown no negative effects on trout numbers or the health of the river as a result of the scheme.
